This is a nice huang mei diao movie with a touch of comedy. Chin Feng was the better suitor than Ho Fan. I don't think Ho Fan was a good choice for this movie, because of his stiffness and unnatural gestures, if I were the director, I would take Yueh Hua instead. Anyway, with Ivy in the leading role, it made the movie very entertaining.

“Perfumed Arrow” is undeniably another Ling Po’s unostentatious Huangmei diao delight! She braced the screen soooo……breezily, cheerfully and enthusiastically and in fact, inexplicably captivating as a ‘young handsome’ scholar and a ‘ravishing lady' altogether in one film. Not to mention again her sweet, unique mesmerizing voice and singing that is forever dulcet!

There is an easy charm to “Perfumed Arrow” and a special likeability to its cast. Director Kao Li heads a cast featuring not only the multi-talented Ling Po, but also the lively, down-to-earth and good looking Chin Fong, naïve and sensitive Ho Fan and last but not least, the attractive Tina Chin Fei with her lustrous touch.

I noted everything about “Perfumed Arrow” is remarkable: the studio scenes, the music, the costumes, the make up and the intelligible lyrics written by guess who, the martial art film director, Chang Cheh!BTW, the acclaimed Shaw Brothers’ make up artist, Fang Yuen is actor Chin Fong’s father. Well, a magnificent joint effort of father and son in this film!

Sadly, this is Ling Po’s last remastered Huangmei opera by Celestial and I must thank them for a job well done! “Perfumed Arrow” is for sure getting two upward thumbs from me for the simple reason that I liked it very, very much and a must-have Ling Po’s collection for all her fans.
