Synopsis
A poor man Ding rescued the daughter of a local gang leader from an attempted kidnap. The gang leader recognized his bravery act and thus entrusted him to consolidate power by eliminating his other opponents. With the help of his best pal Hsu whom he had once saved, Ding soon began to rise to become the top of Shanghai’s underworld.
Meanwhile, Hsu discovered that the gang master was actually the mastermind of the ambush that he had earlier fallen into and the woman whom Ding intended to marry was his beloved …

When was this movie made? I like both leading actors, but haven't see this movie yet, it's worth a try though, to see and understand how the people in the underworld deal with one another.

‘Shanghai Grand’ is a 1996 movie. It’s not a bad movie to watch, as the plot is quite solid (though there are many violent and some intimate scenes) and the acting is top notch especially Leslie Cheung who outshines Andy Lau. The actress is not well known, called Ning Jing. Watch this for Leslie or Andy …
Leslie and Andy acted well in this movie! The plot was entertaining though at times there were some confusions. Whatever, it's still worthy watching.
