Well, what a movie! All I can say is Sylvia Chang is indeed a very smart, efficient artist excels not only in script writing, but reveals yet another hidden talent: a highly capable and successful director.
"All About Ah Long" is a well crafted realistic story that delivers the goods to a point: i.e. a child is torn between the love of both parents when his parental relationship turns sour. That child star's performance is remarkable and undoubtedly has brought tears to my eyes!
The finale is just too poignant to bear. Like you said, Lawrence, one must treasure one's beloved before it's too late.............
I would like to see this movie after reading Amelia's comment and Lawrence's synopsis. There are lots of good movies from the 80s and 90s that I have missed but would like to make up for those lost times, these interesting movies are brought to my attention through Lawrence's blog and the forum at Ivy Ling Po Proboard. Thank you folks for all the informations and reviews, they make watching movie even more enjoyable!!!
A thoughtful and well-crafted drama about the love between parent and child! Chow Yun Fatt, Sylvia Chang and the child actor who played their son gave brilliant performances in their respective roles. That explained why the movie could easily grab hold of the ‘Best Actor’, ‘ Best Supporting Actor’ and other awards in the film festivals.
Like Diane, I really appreciate reviews and comments about great movies like this one, it's difficult to keep up with all of the great Chinese movies that are made. Lawrence,Amelia,Priscilla your descriptions of this movie sure make me want to see this one too. I didn't know that Sylvia Chang and Chow Yun Fatt co-starred in any movies together, and I really like both of them. This story sounds very poignant and touching, one to watch in future, hope that this one is still available on DVD.
